Operatic tenor, linguist, gospel singer, and art-collector. All these labels describe Manuel Escorcio, one of the most exciting and versatile singers ever produced in South Aftica.
Escorcio is a legend in his home country of South Africa. As the principal resident tenor of the Cape Town City Opera for 12 years, he has sung in over 40 productions ranging from Mozart's "The Magic Flute" to Donizetti's "The Barber of Seville."
Born in Mozambique of Portuguese-French descent, this colorful stage, television, and radio personality is in constant demand in many parts of the world.
He has recorded 30 CDs to date, six of which are gospel. Three recordings have gone Gold and one Platinum. He has won numerous awards including being named the Most Popular Singer in South Africa in 1986 and 1990. He sings in six languages (English, Portuguese, Dutch Afrikaans, Spanish, French, and Italian). He has a Master of Music degree from the University of Cape Town and served as a lecturer in vocal studies for the Faculty of Music at the University of Stellenbosch.
Manuel now prefers to sing gospel music, which today constitutes the main emphasis of his musical activity. He has shared his vocal gifts at Dr. Robert Schuller's Crystal Cathedral, and on Mark Finley's It Is Written telecast. His philosophy of music is simple: "Let Jesus permeate the message and the music, so that the Holy S pirit might affect not only the ear of the listener, but his heart as well." Manuel currently lives in Pretoria, South Africa
